Adjunct Professor Scott Kitchener

Scott Kitchener completed the RACGP Family Medicine Training Program in 1992 and continued onto advanced training in Population Health to receive Fellowship in the Faculty of Public Health Medicine (RACP). He has practiced in rural Queensland, NSW and WA as well as in Timor and Bougainville. After completing doctoral studies in primary care of tropical disease he worked on vaccine development in Cambridge then returned to UQ in 2004 teaching in postgraduate medicine and public health. Scott and his family moved back to Toowoomba in 2006 where he worked for Queensland Health developing the role of Director of Rural Medicine on the Darling Downs in addition to part time medical education with QRME (then RRQC). He became full time with QRME in 2008. He also practices at Carbal Aboriginal Medical Centre and at the Oakey Army Base.

Dr Murray Towne
MBBS, FRACGP
After graduation in 1978, Murray worked in a small Queensland rural hospital for 10 years. This was followed by 16 years in his own General Practice with a GP Supervisor role. This practice eventually evolved into a 6 doctor Medical Centre. Murray currently does consultant education for QRME and also is involved in his local Division of General Practice.

Dr Jeff Thomsett
MBBS, MHSt, FRACGP, FACRRM
Dr Jeff Thomsett has worked in rural practice, both hospital and private, since his graduation. He has spent time at Christmas Island, Mareeba, Karratha, Roma, Dalby and Oakey. He has been involved in training GP Registrars for over 20 years, as both a GP Supervisor and a Medical Educator.
Jeff was former Secretary of the Rural Doctors Association of Queensland (RDAQ) and Mentor for TROHPIQ (Southern Queensland's Rural Health Club).

General Practitioner in Toowoomba. Previously medical superintendent Dirranbandi and Hervey Bay. Interest in Tropical Health and Infectious disease, developed whilst in Torres Strait.
Dr Denise Powell

Dr Denise Powell, General Practice Medical Educator, has been involved with QRME for 4 years. She became involved initially as a GP Supervisor/Trainer, then became an ECT visitor. Next she took up a Medical Educator role and is now also the Principal GP Supervisor in her General Practice for the Prevocational General Practice Placements Program (PGPPP).
Denise’s passion is to assist in the education and training of Doctors. She is a Senior Lecturer and Examiner in General Practice for University of Queensland Rural Clinical School and Clinical Director of Bundaberg University of Queensland Campus. In her rare free time her interests include growing rare and native fruits, and cycling which has taken her all over Queensland, West Australia, New Zealand and France.
